WE JAMMIN'

“In this great future, you can’t forget your past.” –Bob Marley Sustainably grown, ethically farmed and artisan roasted, Marley Coffee is becoming a major player in the biz. The company is run by Bob Marley's son, Rohan Marley, who remembers his grandmother picking and drying coffee beans for a fresh cup every morning. " My father (Bob) came from the farmland in Nine Mile. There, he learned a deep respect for nature and humanity. Respect that helped guide his life. He said he would return to the farm one day. That was his dream. We founded Marley Coffee to honor my father. In your hand, you are holding a piece of our dream. One love," said Rohan on their Website. Pour a cup of Marley Coffee and press play on your favorite Marley track, "Stir it up," for a pure cup of goodness. marleycoffee.com

AUTO-FOCUS LENSES

Ti amo technologia! The American company PixelOptics plans to release a new technology, tens years in the making. Its an electronic auto-focus lens using some hi-tech liquid crystals sandwiched between two composite lenses. The organic molecules of the liquid crystals, the same kind used in the display LCD of your mobile device and flat screen TV, changes orientation when hit by an electric field. This change occurs by simply pushing a small button on the side of the frame, so you can switch between distance viewing and reading in the blink of an eye. These lenses are slated to be out in the United States later this year and in the UK in 2011, making traditional bifocals a thing of the past. Smart-phones ... Now intelligent eye wear, what's next, smart contact lenses? www.pixeloptics.com

THE SPARKLING VESPA

That's right, here at Pistachio we love most anything with at least two wheels, and this sparkling vintage Vespa is no different. The 1961 scooter is adorned with 150,000 Swarovski stones putting a hefty price tag of 250,000 Euros on its piccolo motor. Imagine seeing this work of art on the road on a sunny day ... better have your shades. Is there a Swarovski studded helmet to match?

THE FIRST COMMERCIAL

Most of us watch TV from time to time and are familiar with the clever, provocative television commercials of today. But very few know what was the first advertisement to appear on the telly ... until now. In 1941 Bulova aired the first ever television commercial during a Brooklyn Dodgers baseball game, (still image pictured above) yes in black & white, and there were no special effects, high-tech animation or bikini-clad models. bulova.com

EXPENSIVE SET OF WHEELS

This Limited Edition Blacktrail Bike has a price tag of US$77,000 and has just earned a reputation for not only being the fastest, but also the most expensive bike of all-time! The German Bicycle Company, PG Bikes are the mastermind behind this set of wheels with each bike individually numbered.  This Blacktrail is light and fast, weighing in at just under 17 kg, and fully charged can travel for over 200 km at speeds of over 160 km/h. We strap on the helmet and go off road for this ride and would hope the tires might be a bit more rugged, but customization is a snap. With a bike this rare and valuable, its time to upgrade that rusty, old bike lock, and throw in one of those gel seat cushions while your at it.

THE 24 CARAT APPLE

Stuart Hughes is behind some of the most expensive gadgets on the planet and has now put his creativity on the new 24 carat Solid Gold iPhone 4G. 150 grams of 24 carat gold were used to craft this beauty as the 32GB golden iPhone has been entirely hand crafted for an added touch of class. Hughes also put his luxurious touch on the iPhone 4G Diamond edition if you want to turn up the bling factor. Hopefully the internal component issues have been resolved in this sinful fruit. FYI, Gold prices are at an eight-week low if you have the golden touch.

KAMPAI!

In 1994 the Japanese beer tax laws were lifted after nearly a century of strict regulations. In Osaka, Japan there's an annual celebration of almost 300 Japanese microbreweries pouring a frosty froth. The Great Japan Beer Festival proves the country is not only drinking sake, but also has a passion for beer. The event runs from July 17-19 in Osaka, and if you can't make this party, mark your calendar for September 18-20 for a continuation in Yokohama. Be sure to try the Pistachio Dragon Rolls! beertaster.org

MY TIRE IS FLAT, GIMME A REPLACEMENT

There are some beers you know right away ... either you love it or hate it. There are also some brews that catch you off guard… all of this is just the world of beer tasting. However, every now and then you run across a beer that has such an interesting and memorable flavor profile, that it changes while you are drinking it. Fat Tire out of Fort Collins, Colorado is one of those beers. It goes down smooth with any cuisine, including pistachios. www.newbelgium.com
